Cedarville golfers lose

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville High School’s golf team lost, 168-182, to Mechanicsburg Aug. 24 at Locust Hills. Noah Myers paced the Indians with a 42. Adam Wood shot 45, while Jadon Horsley carded a 47 and Caleb Smith a 48. Cedarville is 1-5 overall and 1-5 in the Ohio Heritage Conference.

Rams defeat Fairborn

XENIA — Daniel Sage and Zahary Halder combined to shoot a medalist round of 40 to lead Greeneview (6-1) to a 162-193 win over Fairborn, Wednesday at Sebastian Hills Golf Club. Other scores for the Rams came from Wade Hovan and Brayden Woods (41s), Ethan Dailey (45) and Christian Phillips (49).

Mark Rich led Fairborn (0-3) with a round of 43, followed by Trey Boedicker (45), “Jon” (50), “Adam” (55), “Brodie” (60) and “Bruce” (62).

Greeneview tennis splits matches

JAMESTOWN — The Greeneview High School tennis team split a pair of recent matches, losing 1-4 on Aug. 22 at Greenon, and beating Germantown Valley View, 4-1, on Aug. 23.

In the match against Greenon, the second doubles team of Sara Givens and Marinda Shoemaker won, 6-1, 6-2. Singles players Ellie Adkins, Molly Nixon and Ciara Reffitt lost their matches 0-6, 0-6; 1-6, 7-6 (3-7); and 0-6, 1-6 respectively. Katy Hilbig and Erin Miller lost, 4-6, 4-6, at first doubles.

In the win over Valley View, Adkins posted a 6-4, 7-6 win at first singles, while Nixon won, 6-0, 6-0, at second singles and Reffitt won, 6-0, 6-4, at third singles. Hilbig and Miller won their match at first doubles, 6-2, 6-2. Givens and Shoemaker lost 2-6, 6-7.

Middle School

Rams defeat Triad (Eighth Grade)

JAMESTOWN — Greeneview beat North Lewisburg Triad on Wednesday night, 25-8 and 25-23. Leading the team in scoring was Kimmy Robinette with 17 points, Leah Hoyle with 16 points, and Rachel Strickle with seven points. The team’s record is 2-1.

Cedarville knocks off Rams, twice

CEDARVILLE — Greeneview’s seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball teams both lost to Cedarville on Monday.

Cedarville won the seventh-grade match 25-18, 15-25, 25-19. Greeneview’s Sarah Trisel had 10 points, Emma Waller 10 points, Cheyenne Hubbard six points, Brilea Bishop four points, and Ellie Harlow and Kelsey Mardsen each had two points. Hubbard had three kills and Trisel had two.

The Indians claimed the eighth-grade match in three sets as well, winning 25-11, 17-25, 25-17. Leah Hoyle had 17 points Kimmy Robinette had 15 points, and Klarissa Knisley 15 for Greeneview. Elizabeth Reichley and Robinette both led the team in blocks. Rachel Strickle had three kills and Elizabeth McDonald, Knisley and Strickle each had two.

Tuesday Church League Social Division

FAIRBORN — Central Avenue Church of Christ won the Tuesday Social Division tournament championship. Abiding Christ Lutheran was the tournament runner-up as well as being the regular season league champions. Noted also are One Love Church “A” for being the regular season runner-up and Central Avenue for being third in the regular season. Final game: Central Avenue Church of Christ 10, Abiding Christ Lutheran 2. Tournament Records: 1. Central Avenue (3–0); 2.(tie) Abiding Christ, One Love A, One Love B (1–1); 5.(tie) Northridge, Maple Ave A, Freedom (0–1).

Thursday Church League Recreation Division

FAIRBORN — Maple Avenue Church of God “B” won the Thursday Social Division Tournament Championship as well as the regular season league champions. Runner-up in the tournament was St. Mark’s Episcopal, who also took runner-up in the regular season. Final Game: Maple Avenue Church of God “B” 21, St. Mark’s Episcopal 3. Tournament Records: 1. Maple Ave B (3–0); 2. Arrowbrook (3–2); 3.(tie) St. Mark’s, Medway UMC (2-2); 5.(tie) Huber Mennonite, Spinning Road (0–2).

Fall hockey camp offered

BEAVERCREEK — Academy Hockey is a new and exciting opportunity for area high school players to improve skills and continue enjoying the game of hockey off-season. Academy Hockey Program goals are open opportunity and skills development. This program is available to all area high school players and is endorsed by Dayton area High School coaches Alter, Beavercreek, Centerville, Springboro, and Troy. The program meets all OHSAA pre/post criteria — and former Division I Hockey players form the core of the coaching staff.

A pre-season fall camp will run on Thursdays or Wednesday and Sundays, Sept. 8-Oct. 30 with one session of skills development and one session of scrimmage games, at a time and location to be announced. Camp is open to all area high school hockey players. Must have a current USA Hockey registration — last year’s is good through Aug. 31 and you need a liability waiver. Xenia Tornadoes tryouts set

XENIA — The Xenia Tornadoes semi-professional football team will hold a tryout for its 2017 team at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at Spring Hill Park, located just off Ormsby Drive. Tryouts are free, make sure you bring water cleats and shorts. Tryouts will consist of agility drills, route running, and more.

Central State names induction class

WILBERFORCE — The 2016 Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held at Country Club of the North 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14. All those planning to attend must RSVP prior to the event and purchase tickets on or before Friday, Oct. 2.

Five individuals and four teams make up this year’s class: Leonard “Tony” Blaine ‘62, John E. Day ‘71, Eric Love ‘83, Dr. Paul Nitz, James Rollins ‘96, 1960 & 1962 men’s cross country teams, 1983 football team and the 1991 women’s track & field team.

Xenia sports passes available

XENIA — The Xenia High School Athletic Department will be offering four different all-sports passes for the 2016-17 school year. Passes are good for unlimited admission to all home Xenia athletic events for middle school and high school. Passes are not valid for away contests or Ohio High School Athletic Association-sanctioned tournaments.

The following passes are available: Student pass $50; adult pass $75; family pass $225 — good for four people in the same household. Additional family members in the same household may be added for $25 each. A senior citizens pass is available free to age 62 years of age and older.

Reds offering ‘Sliding into Om’ yoga session

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds Major League Baseball organization is inviting yoga practitioners of all skills and ages to enjoy “Sliding into Om,” a one-hour yoga session, 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 on the Great American Ball Park field in downtown Cincinnati.

For $15, fans can practice yoga on the outfield, and get a View Level ticket to the 1:10 p.m. Sept. 4 Reds game with the St. Louis Cardinals. All yoga participants will be recognized during the seventh inning stretch. For $25, fans can obtain the same package as above, plus receive an exclusive Cincinnati Reds yoga mat. Shady Bowl Speedway

DEGRAFF — There will be no racing on Saturday, Sept. 3 so the drivers can compete on the famed half mile Winchester Speedway. The Saturday, Sept. 10 program has been changed to Sept. 11 so fans and drivers can go to the Columbus Motor Speedway as it closes its doors after 71 years of racing. The final points race for Shady Bowl drivers will be on the 11th and the 2016 champions will be crowned.

Drifting Series heads to Kil-Kare Raceway

WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Midwest Drift Union will bring the third round of its Championship Series to Kil-Kare Raceway on Sept. 17 in Xenia.

The MDU was founded in 2010 as a Midwest regional feeder series with the intention of advancing the area’s top drifting competitors to the professional level. Last season, the top-3 drivers were rewarded with a Formula Drift Pro 2 competitors license.
