Bulldogs win quad match

ENON — The Yellow Springs girls volleyball team opened its season with a quad match at Greenon.

Yellow Springs beat Cedarville, 17-25, 25-23, 25-18 and Greeneview 25-23, 25-17.

After dropping the first set, Alex Ronnebaum recorded one of her eight blocks to give Yellow Springs a 24-23 lead. Kasey Linkhart came in to serve, and placed the ball deep in the court, causing the Indians to hit it out of bounds to win the set. The third set was back-and-forth until Linkhart again came in and served the Bulldogs to an 18-13 lead. Yellow Springs clinched the match with a bevy of kills from both rows.

Elizabeth Smith had nine points, five digs, one block and one ace. Elle Peifer had five points, three aces, three blocks, one kill, and one dig. Ronnebaum had 10 kills, eight blocks, four points and an ace while Linkhart had nine points, nine assists, three digs and two aces. Tyler Linkhart had four points, three kills, seven assists, four digs and two blocks, while Dede Cheatom had six blocks, and one kill. Payden Kegley had four digs and one point.

In the Greeneview match, Yellow Springs came out strong at the net, blocking its way to several points. Greeneview started to tip the ball in an effort to get around the blocks, but Yellow Springs adjusted and began hitting strong at the net. Back-row kills by Peifer and serving by Danny Horton helped secure the win.

Ronnebaum had eight kills, seven points, four digs and two blocks while Tyler Linkhart added eight digs, seven kills, four points, four assists, once ace and one block. Cheatom chipped in three blocks and three kills. Peifer had five digs, three assists, two kills, one point and once ace, and Horton had four points and a dig. Kegley added five digs, while Kasey Linkhart recorded seven assists, five points, four digs and an ace, and Smith five digs, one block, one point and one assist.
