Through one week of the high school football season, the Greene County area high school teams have just three of the eight area high school football teams remaining with unblemished won-loss records.

With more than 400 yards in total offense, and a defense that shut down Beavercreek’s running attack, the Xenia Buccaneers emerged with a 50-7 win on the road to lay claim to the Border Battle Trophy.

Xenia will look to add another win onto its non-divisional schedule when they will host the Bellbrook Golden Eagles on Friday.

Turnovers gave Bellbrook troubles a week ago. A pair of interceptions, two fumbles and a blocked punt led to the Eagles’ woes in a 38-10 home loss to Miamisburg.

The Greeneview Rams opened up with a solid 40-0 road win over Dayton Christian. That game was played at the old high school stadium in Monroe. The Rams will be wary of their next opponent, Madison Plains, a team that rallied to a 21-18 home win over Greeneview’s Ohio Heritage Conference rival Cedarville Indians a week ago.

And the third team to emerge unscathed after the first week was the Carroll Patriots, who bashed visiting Dayton Meadowdale 35-0 Friday night.

Marcus LaJeunesse and Joel Teleha both scored two rushing touchdowns and Carroll ran for more than 350 yards in the win. The Pats will face a bigger challenge on Friday when they’ll play Beavercreek, a team that will want to show that last week’s 50-7 loss to Xenia was a fluke.

In other games, the Fairborn Skyhawks played a hard-fought game with host New Carlisle Tecumseh. The Skyhawks lost on a fluke fumble return, 6-0. The Greenon Knights also had a tough start to its season, losing 33-0 at home to perennial contender West Liberty-Salem.
