Beavercreek football community night tonight
BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek Football will host the 2014 Community Night at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 21 at the BHS Stadium. There will be skill stations and on-field games and drills for all, including laser-timed 40-yard dashes and time shuttle drills. In addition, the 2014 schedule poster will be available as well as new spirit wear, and food for sale. All youth, ages 12 and under, will receive a free youth admission to the Beavers’ Jamboree game v. Vandalia Butler on Friday, Aug. 22.

Carroll Player nominated for Player of the Week
Carroll’s Jillian Milano is the leading vote recipient so far in this week’s Bucknuts and JJHuddle Ohio high school weekly awards. Milano, a sophomore, won her first singles title at the Schroeder Invitational last week. Voting ends at noon, Aug. 22. Cedarville 230, Triad 230: The Indians took on Triad, Tuesday at Woodland Golf Club. Cedarville’s top golfers were Brandon Smith (50), Everett Tye (52), Noah Myers (57) and Sarah Pitts (71). Triad’s top players were Alec Ober (47) and Creighton Bradley (59).
Cedarville lost to Mechanicsburg 177-238, Wednesday at Locust Hills Golf Course. Smith was the team’s top golfer again, finishing at 50. Caleb Westfall and Mack Cushman both finished at 39 for Mechanincsburg.
Bellbrook 158, Monroe 177: Bellbrook topped Southwestern Buckeye League rival Monroe, Tuesday at Weatherwax-Woodside Golf Course. The Golden Eagles had four of the top five finishers. Bellbrook’s Chad Bacon finished with the top score at 37. Alyssa Burritt (38), Miranda Greene (41) and Matt Ratcliffe (42) made of the rest of Bellbrook’s top finishers at second, fourth and fifth respectively. Monroe’s Amit Patel finished third at 39. The Golden Eagles remain undefeated at 4-0.
Women’s Soccer Picked Third in Horizon Poll
FAIRBORN — The Wright State women’s soccer team was picked third in the Horizon League Preseason Poll, which was released Tuesday by the league office. Voting was conducted by the nine head coaches in the league.
The Raiders, under 10th-year head coach Pat Ferguson, finished 8-5-5 overall last season and were second in the league standings with a 5-1-1 mark, including a 1-0 win over eventual regular-season and tournament champion Milwaukee at Alumni Field.
Milwaukee was selected as the preseason favorite with six first-place votes and 62 points overall while Oakland edged WSU for the second spot with one first-place vote and 51 points for the Golden Grizzlies compared to one first-place vote and 50 points for the Raiders. Detroit was picked fourth followed by Valparaiso, Youngstown State, Cleveland State, Green Bay and first-year program UIC.
The Raiders return 13 letter winners from last year’s squad. Three of those returning letter winners were recently named to the College Sports Madness Preseason Horizon League Teams as senior defender Allie Metzler was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year and was also chosen to the First Team while junior midfielder Kalee Thompson was also named to the First Team and junior midfielder Ashley Gogolin to the Second Team.
Wright State opens the regular season this week against back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference opponents as the Raiders host Louisville at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 22, followed by a trip to Wake Forest at 5 p.m. on Monday, August 25.
