The best laid plans of mice and men

0

Isaiah 25:1 “O Lord, You are my God; I will exalt You, I will give thanks to Your name; For You have worked wonders, Plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.”

There is nothing more frustrating than interrupted plans. We have all experienced it! You spend hours organizing an event only to have it fall through for one reason or another. Or maybe you intend to spend a quiet evening at home until a phone call comes which rouses you from your chair and fills the whole evening with unexpected activity. There is no way around it! As Robert Burns, the Scottish poet, wrote, “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”

This plight may be true for mice and men, but there is One for Whom all His plans are accomplished. Long ago our God formed the universe. In His perfect wisdom and faithfulness He set Creation in motion. But even before He laid the foundations of the earth, He developed a plan whereby His people would be holy and blameless before Him. He predetermined that we would become the sons and daughters of God through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. In perfect faithfulness and power He has and will accomplish everything He set out to do.

Over the years Satan has tried to thwart this divine plan. Using every means possible the great enemy of the world has sought to overrule what God had promised. He tempted Eve in the garden, influencing her and Adam to disobey the Creator’s commands. He introduced other false gods to turn God’s people away from Him. He blinded the eyes and closed the ears of God’s nation, Israel, so they would not listen to the prophets speaking God’s message of truth. He convinced them to turn to other nations for help against their enemies instead of returning to the Lord they had rejected. When the Christ child was born he stirred up anger in the jealous Herod who tried to murder the baby Jesus. He tempted the Savior in the desert hoping he would bow down before him. He did everything he could to stop the Son of God from going to the cross and thereby paying for the sin of mankind.

Today this adversary still stalks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he can devour. Until the day when the Lord comes back he will seek to disrupt God’s eternal plan, but it will be to no avail. Our God works in mysterious ways in the lives of His children. He uses difficulties that Satan means for evil to bring good to our lives. Through adversity He turns hearts back to Himself. He is a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in distress, a refuge from the storm, and a shade from the heat. Therefore we do not need to fear.

“The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” This adage does NOT hold true for the all-powerful Lord of heaven and earth. NOTHING and NO ONE can ever thwart what He has decided. So exalt and give thanks in His name. For His excellent plans formed long ago will surely be fulfilled in perfect faithfulness. You can count on it!! — Love, Mama
