XENIA — A small fire did minor damage to a mixed-use building on South Detroit Street Saturday afternoon.

According to Xenia Fire Department Captain Doug Cope, a fire started in the basement at 73 S. Detroit Street shortly before 4 p.m.

Crews responded quickly and had the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes, limiting damage to less than $5,000.

The basement of the building is used for storage, while the first floor contains Salvation Army offices and the second floor apartments.

The building was evacuated while the fire was being extinguished and all occupants were allowed back in once crews were finished.

“Crews did a really nice job,” Cope said.

There were no injuries reported. The fire is still under investigation.
