FAIRBORN — The local US Veterans Motorcycle Club (USVMC) will once again honor one of Fairborn’s own with their Second Annual Fallen Hero Poker Run on Saturday.
USVMC-OH is a federal 501(c)(19) non-profit organization and funds raised are applied to USVMC-OH Veteran initiative programs to include: Fallen Hero Scholarship Fund, Wreaths Across America, Operation S.T.A.T. and Operation Valhalla Bound.
Dedicated in honor of Army Spc. Jesse A. Snow, a percentage of Saturday’s event proceeds will go toward a scholarship to Sinclair Community College’s firefighter program for a veteran or qualifying family member.
“We want to help keep Jesse’s dream alive,” said Josh Moyer, MC club public affairs. “He wanted to be a firefighter when he got out of the military.”
Snow, 25, of Fairborn, died Nov. 14, 2010, while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) with the 101st Airborne Division. He died in the Watahpur district, Kunar Prov, Afghanistan. His heroic acts saved the lives of three servicemen before he was fatally wounded in battle with insurgents. For his actions, he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star.
Registration for the poker run will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. July 26 at the USVMC clubhouse, 717 West Xenia Drive. Cost is $20 per rider and $5 per passenger. Each registrant will receive a commemorative shirt or bandana.
