WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Congratulations are in order to long-time Miami Valley aerospace researcher and blood donor Dr. G. Edward Kuhl, who made his milestone 100th lifetime blood donation with Community Blood Center (CBC) Thursday, Dec. 19 at the downtown Dayton CBC.

Since retirement Edward and his wife Joanne have moved to Cincinnati, but both continue to donate with CBC and Ed returned to the Dayton CBC for his milestone donation. They lived in Kettering for much of his career, which included 17 years at Wright Patterson Air Force Base working in the Air Force Materials Laboratory, followed by distinguished research in aerospace power systems and magnetic materials at the University of Dayton Research Institute.

His journey to the 100th lifetime donation milestone began at Wright-Patt.

“I started donating at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base when I worked there with a couple of guys who were very serious about it,” he said. “I had to quit for a couple of years because of back surgery. I got back into because of a guy I hired, an Air Force colonel who had over 200 donations. He had donated all over the world.”

Edward also has many donations with other blood centers, but his “Donor for Life – 100 LTD” jacket will reflect his 100 donations with CBC.

Edward has been involved with ground-breaking research at the U.D. Research Institute. Of particular note was his work with Dr. Sam Liu, the principal investigator for magnetic materials research.
