“The Lord said, ‘It is because they have forsaken my law, which I set before them; they have not obeyed me or followed my law. Instead, they have followed the stubbornness of their hearts;…’” (Jeremiah 9:13-14a)
Why has the land of Israel been ruined? God answers that question. His people have forgotten and rejected His law. They have not obeyed Him but rather followed the imaginations of their hearts. Here is the truth of every generation on earth, whether God’s chosen or not.
Humankind’s enlightenment turns people from God. Soon they forget whose they are and believe they are smarter, wiser than their Creator. Or they disregard their Creator all together. The anti-God movement is always on the move drawing people to disobedience and the ignoring of God’s laws.
God required obedience. In this day and age obedience is almost another word that is unrecognizable, like sin. It is no longer acknowledged by many in society as an important element of life. Doing one’s own things is more important, that is, within the bounds of civil law, but don’t mind with God’s law.
It is hard to imagine our God of love who has set bounds for our living, for our good, looking down and seeing our disobedience that leads to destruction. Can we imagine His sadness? All He wants to do is bless our lives and we reject His guidelines that would bring it. What a hopeless people we are. Thank God, again, for His grace that has saved us from ourselves.
Heavenly Father, it is getting so sad for us to follow this account of Your creations disobedience. We know we are part of that, and that saddens us more. All we can say is Thank You for Jesus. Every other alternative is a bummer.
Jesus is our Way, our Truth and our Life. In His name. Amen.
