The Word became flesh

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

The “Word” (Greek “logos”) means “the Divine Expression” in this context and refers to Christ Jesus. At Christmas we celebrate the Word becoming the Son, taking on flesh, begotten of the Father, and born on earth. He came to dwell with humankind. He came to live in the arena of sin without the sin. His presence was recognized by the glory that radiated from Him. He was full of God, His love, grace and truth. His name – Jesus!

Jesus coming to earth is the ultimate expression of God, our Creator’s love for us. It is the unimaginable sacrifice of Jesus coming down from His Throne in Heaven to be by our side. He lived a life like ours. He knew our temptations and trials. He observed what it was like for those He had created to live without a perfect moral center. He learned firsthand how sinfulness continued to work to destroy His creation. He observed how His creation had learned to do evil. He learned how His creation would oppose His presence and seek to eliminate Him. He would learn how humankind would not easily learn love. And yet He was joyful in so doing, knowing that we would one day rejoice in His coming. Jesus! What a Savior!

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us so much that You chose to implement the final solution to cure us of our rebellion and sinfulness. Thank You for Jesus, our Savior and Lord.

We Praise You: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Amen.
