“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? ‘I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind,…’” (Jeremiah 17:9-10)

Bottom line, God knows! Certainly He knows the why of our heart and mind. Certainly He understands us. If we just stop and think the problem is revealed.

Our thoughts are all over the place. Maybe there are some people whose thoughts are focused and pure but most likely ours are free and range from good to evil. Why? Our heart is deceitful and we agree it is beyond cure.

God’s grace is the only way that our mind and heart can become a new creation to His glory. He has to do it. He knows He has to do it and He did in sending Jesus, the only Cure. Only His righteousness could be acceptable to God. Only His mercy and forgiveness would bring the Cure. Only the Cross would make all things new, and in this life that is but a faint light but in eternity it will shine bright.

The question is, “How do we live a life with thoughts all over the place without going mad?”

The key is to accept the madness. It is the reality of life. There is the battle of good and evil going on within us. It should be no surprise. But we do have a surprise awaiting evil because we are not alone in this battle. The Lord Jesus wages the war through us. His forgiveness covers all our thoughts and deeds that do not please Him.

His forgiveness is the final Cure. This is the bottom line for us. So, we need not worry about our thoughts. They are normal. Our prayer is that the Lord would give us the power to control any actions that could result from certain thoughts, and one day we know the thoughts will not even be there. Let us not work out the evil Satan so desires to see.

Heavenly Father, thank You for our Cure, the great Physician, Jesus. You knew exactly what ailed us, sin in thought, word and deed. You took action to save us. We are saved every day by Your Grace.

Thank You for straightening out the mess of our life by the power of Your Spirit. Continue the work. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
