Greene County News Report
BEAVERCREEK — Investigators from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) closed down the Beavercreek Wal-Mart early Wednesday morning to reconstruct the John Crawford III shooting.
A written statement from investigation officials read, “Agents with the Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) conducted a reconstruction of the incident in an effort to further define the timeline of events. All of the evidence gathered as part of the investigation will be given to the Hamilton County special prosecutor appointed by the court to present the case to a Greene County Grand Jury.”
Our partners at WDTN 2 News spotted a BCI truck outside the store and saw investigators in the store. WDTN photojournalist Bear Everett reported hearing test gunfire.
The store reopened to customers just after 7 a.m.
The store was the scene of a deadly officer-involved shooting Aug. 5. Beavercreek police officers were brought to the scene by a 911 caller who alleged that a man (later identified as John Crawford III) was waving a rifle at store customers. According to police, Crawford did not respond to officers’ verbal commands and was shot. He was transported to Miami Valley Hospital where he died shortly after arrival.
