XENIA — The Kroger Company recently donated 60 used Lenovo laptops to the Xenia Community School District. The company also donated 60 chargers and five laptop cases.

According to Xenia Community Schools Director of Business and Technology Christy Fielding the computers will potentially be used by elementary students for digital literacy preparation, including keyboarding, general computer knowledge and specific program training.

Andrew Johnston of Kroger Technology estimated the average value of the devices at $150 each, which would put the total value of the donation at around $9,000. The devices were general office laptops that were phased out of use at the company.

Xenia Community Schools Superintendent Pro Tem Denny Morrison thanked Johnston at the board of education’s regular meeting on Monday.

“This is definitely a donation that we’ll be putting to use immediately,” he said. “Thank you very, very much.”

The district is looking for additional similar donations. Those with information about such donations should contact Fielding at 937-562-9002.
