FAIRBORN — Fairborn residents hit the pavement Saturday morning to help fund activities at their local parks.
The 25th Annual Fairborn Parks and Recreation 5K Run/Walk took place July 19th in Rona Hills with a turnout of 64 participants. Proceeds raised from this event allow the Parks and Recreation Division to provide cultural, educational, and recreational programs at little or no cost to the public.
“Things went really well,” said Recreation Coordinator Mindy Weaver. “Our numbers were down this year, but it was a great run.”
The first overall finisher and first place male winner was Gareth Graver, 22, with a time of 18:30.1. Courtney Stroble, 31, was the overall female winner with a time of 20:33.2. Other award winners included first Female 65 and Over Mary Gale and first Male 65 and Over Jay Morgan. Awards were also presented to the first three people in each male/female age group.
In celebration of the 25th annual event, a door prize was given to the 25th runner to cross the finish line. Thomas Hyatt, 18, received coupons from Hot Head Burritos.
“The City of Fairborn Parks and Recreation Division wants to thank all of the participants for taking part in the run, all the volunteers who assisted with the run along with our generous sponsor,” said Weaver.
There were 23 volunteers who helped with the award stations, food and drink station, pre-registration, split callers, door prizes, race route, finish line and water stops.
