XENIA — Greene County residents have been begging for a big-name artist to perform at the annual fair.

“We listened to the public,” fair board member Jeff Barr said.

Cole Swindell, whose debut song “Chillin’ It” has sold more than 125,000 copies despite limited availability, will perform at the Greene County Fair on July 29.

The Georgia native has literally worked his way up. Just three years ago he was hawking merchandise on tour with Luke Bryan, for whom he had opened shows. Watching Bryan, Swindell absorbed everything he could and incorporated it into his own music.

He earned a staff writers’ job at Sony ATV and his career took off from there as he began to work with the major writers at Sony. He continued to his work on stage, going solo and opening for others and his refined his music into a sound people will want to hear over and over.

His first single, which is on its way to being gold certified, is a testimony to that.

“The folks who are buying music just want to have fun,” Swindell said on his website biography, “and ‘Chillin’ It’ is the perfect song to introduce me to them. It isn’t a full-out party song, and it isn’t serious. Like it says, it’s just a chill song, and that’s just me.”

Clark Manson, whose music blends a classic rock swag with Midwest country charm, will open the show.

Tickets, which cost $20 and include admission to the fair for the day, go on sale Friday at 9 a.m. and are available at the fair board office or over the phone by calling 937-372-8621.

The board office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. There will be 1,000 reserved seats on the track and 1,500 general admission seats in the grandstand available. Anyone 3-years-old and over must have a ticket and purchasers are limited to 10 tickets each.
