GREENVILLE - Friends and family gathered Friday to celebrate the birthday and remember the life of a special friend, a son, and a dad.

Brandon Dewayne Hampton, aka Frampton, would have turned 27 years old on Friday. The 2006 Greenville graduate passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Oct. 6, 2013. According to family and friends, he had many friends that thought the world of him and referred to him as everyone’s “Dr. Phil.”

”He was very social and was there for everyone and always putting his own needs aside. He didn’t just have a few friends, everyone was his friend,” said Hampton’s mother Elsie King-Bush. “The last message Brandon sent to me was that he was the richest kid in the neighborhood because I was his mom.”

A former co-worker told his mom that she had very low self-esteem issues until Brandon nicknamed her “Beautiful.” All of his friends then followed his lead and started calling her by that name as well.

“That is one example of how Brandon made a positive impact in people’s lives,” Elsie King-Bush added.

He left behind his 10-month-old daughter Harper Elina Hampton and stepdaughter Jailyn who is age 5, along with several brothers and sisters.

“He was very close with his daughters, Harper and Jailyn. He was always playing with them, whether it was trying to teach Harper to crawl or playing barbies with Jailyn. He looked forward to every moment he got to spend with them. Family was very important to him,” said Abbie Ressler.

One of Brandon’s best friends John ‘Zach’ Randall posted the following on his buddies Facebook wall Friday, “No matter how many wishes nothing can bring ya back. I miss ya brother. I appreciate everything and will see you on the other side. It’s your birthday every day now because you’re in a better place with angels in paradise, but today we’ll celebrate here on earth. Our dear brother. This day is for you!”

Those who knew and were close to Brandon gathered for a balloon launch at South Park in Greenville on Friday afternoon and then for a vigil celebration on Broadway that evening.

He had sayings that people continue to use and one is on his memorial t-shirt that over 400 people bought locally and some even got tattooed.

“I don’t care what you think of me unless you think I’m awesome in which case you’re right! Carry on!” - Brandon D. Hampton, Feb. 21, 1987 to Oct. 6, 2013.
