FAIRBORN — Some Baker Middle School students are bringing a little bit of warmth to clients of Michael’s House this holiday season.

The 12 BMS student ambassadors collected donated fleece to cut and tie handmade scarves as a community service project. They delivered the scarves and candy canes to Michael’s House, Greene County’s child advocacy center, last week to be given to the children who visit the facility over the holidays.

“The student ambassadors chose Michael’s House because they wanted to do something in Fairborn to make a difference and thought the scarves would be something the kids who visited Michael’s House might need,” said advisor Pam Gayheart. “And it was something they could make themselves.”

There are four ambassadors per grade levels 4-12 who work on community service projects throughout the school year to give back to the Fairborn community. This is only the second year for the program, but students can apply in the spring to be an ambassador the following school year.

“We encourage them to be role models and leaders in their buildings,” Gayheart said. “Through their attitude and everyday actions, they work to change the culture at their school.”

This year all the student ambassadors helped with the Fill the Bus campaign for the Fairborn FISH food pantry, acting as the point of contact at each building. The student ambassadors at Fairborn Intermediate recently made tie blankets for the kids at Children’s Medical Center and will be delivering them next week.

Fairborn High School ambassadors are collecting supplies for the Ronald McDonald House, such as shampoos and lotions, books and magazines, and anything else parents who stay their may need. There are collection boxes in the language arts classrooms and at the high school office. Donations may be sent to school with high school students.
