WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Pollinator Week is June 15-21, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, with Huffman Prairie, will host a pollinator event 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 16.

In response to a Pollinator Health Task Force report recently issued by the president to improve and promote the health of honey bees and other pollinators, the base’s natural resources program office coordinated with the Propolis Project, LLC, to place four hives, containing 40,000 Apis melliflera carnica bees, at Huffman Prairie. The bees were reared in Belle Center, Ohio, by Marlyn Miller in his Amish community.

Col. John Devillier, 88th Air Base Wing commander, will be on hand to discuss the project. In addition, Karen Levin, Dwight Wells and Barbara Bloetscher, with Propolis Projects, Levin Family Foundation, will speak at this event, providing background about the Pollinator project, the bees and the importance of creating an environment that will attract these important pollinators.
