CEDARVILLE — The Greene County Farm Bureau Board combined its annual meeting with the Greene Soil and Water Conservation Board annual meeting Aug. 18 in Cedarville. The following business took place:
Agriculture Hall of Fame
Tom Pitstick was honored as the newest inductee into the Greene County Agriculture Hall of Fame. Pitstick is a Bath Township trustee and farms more than 2,000 acres of land. His farming operation also includes a 2,800 head hog nursery and seven finishing barns, which hold more than 4,700 head of hogs.
Pitstick has served as president of the Greene County Farm Bureau and the Ohio Pork Producers Council. He was a Pioneer Hi-Bred International sales representative, is a former 4-H advisor and an Ohio delegate to the National Pork Producers Council.
Tom and his wife Lynn operate Pitstick Pork Farms Inc. along with several family members.
Scholarship winner
Brooke Anderson received the $500 Cecil Huston scholarship from the Greene County Farm Bureau. She is 2015 graduate of Cedarville High School and plans to attend The Ohio State University to study animal science. She has been active in 4-H and FFA, was a cheerleader, a member of the National Honor Society and was her class’s valedictorian.
Anderson was also selected to receive the $1,500 Women’s Leadership in Agriculture Scholarship from the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation.
Change in membership
Board member Doug Shannon presented proposed membership categories for vote: active and community members, young active members and Ohio Supporter. Proposed dues for the active and community member will increase to $85 starting Dec. 1, 2015. Youth active member dues (18-24) will be $25, as will be Ohio Supporter dues.
All of these proposals passed in a vote taken by members present.
New board members
Joe Krajicek, Deana Reed and Bob Paris were elected to the farm bureau, replacing the retiring board members Kent Campbell, Dan Jones and Ben Ankeney. Kent Campbell was also recognized by Ohio Farm Bureau Organizational Director Steve Berk for his leadership the past five years as board president.
