XENIA — As the animals make their way to the Greene County Fairgrounds this weekend, the community gets ready for a variety of fun at the Greene County Fair Sunday, July 30 through Saturday, Aug. 5.

Kicking off the week-long entertainment acts Sunday, July 30 include the free Kiddie Calf Scramble and the Senior Calf Scramble 7 p.m. at the grandstand, as well as musicians The Van Dells beginning 8:30 p.m. at the entertainment center.

The Greene County Fair royalty will be crowned Sunday as well. There are 12 applicants to choose from for this year’s royal family. Six young women vie for the coveted queen of the fair, while four vie to be princess. This year there is one prince candidate and one king candidate. Judges look for candidates with leadership qualities and who can represent 4-H at parades, community promotions and banquets. Additionally, the royal youth will attend the next year’s crowning. The event will begin 5:30 p.m. in the Assembly Building.

Other main events: Monday the demolition derby and performance by local musicians Southbound Band; Tuesday will include bull riding, barrel racing, mutton busting (sheep riding or racing), and calf riding and Nashville recording artist Mike Mueller. Fair attendees will have the opportunity Wednesday watch harness racing as well as the David Mullikin Band. Thursday there will be a second day of harness racing and the Richard Lynch Band will perform.
