XENIA — Some of the top bull riders and barrel racers will be in Xenia as the Greene County Fair hosts its first rodeo Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Southern Extreme Bull Riding Association (SWBRA) is sanctioning the event, which means it will attract out the best of the best. Eli Byler, of Nashville, Ohio, who is currently No. 3 with $6,172 in earnings, and Briar Schultheisz of Marietta, No. 9 with earnings of $4,697, are among those entered in bull riding.

Megan Wilkin, of Clarksville, No. 1 on the barrel racing circuit with earnings of $4,683 has also entered to ride at the fair.

In addition to earning points, riders will compete for $1,000 in added money for bull riding and $300 in added money for barrel racing.

There are two divisions of bull riding, according to Fair Board Member Zach Pitstick. One for the pros, and another for amateurs.

“(Amateur division) is for whoever,” Pitstick said. “We even have equipment rentals … if they want to try it for one time.”

Colton Trego, a Fairborn Firefighter, has entered the amateur division, and is riding for the first time to help raise awareness for the breast cancer campaign.

Amateurs are able to sign up in advance or the day of the rodeo, which is being produced by Fox Hollow Rodeo of Waynesville.

Admission for is $5 for grandstand seats and fair entry must be purchased separately. Pitstick said there will be outside vendors just for the rodeo.

The rodeo beings 7 p.m. with kids sheep and calf riding.
