FAIRBORN — More than 200 light poles are in need of replacement throughout the City of Fairborn.

The city contracted with Miami Valley Lighting (MVL) in 2016 to provide both electric provision and maintenance on more than 2,400 street lights located within the city. The maintenance provides preventative measures to ensure a quality street lighting system in our community and includes routine inspections on all light poles by MVL.

During the inspection process, it was determined that 203 units were in need of replacement in Fairborn.

MVL plans to start replacements in the next few months with work continuing into 2018. A list of targeted streets lights is available by visiting http://bit.ly/2vlrHYk.

A third party contractor hired by MVL will remove existing poles and replace them with new poles using the same hole. Minimal digging is required, and it will not affect electrical service to any of the nearby residences. No street closure are expected. Typical replacements take approximately two to four hours. All pole replacements are funded by MVL as part of the contract, and no additional fees will be incurred by the city.
