XENIA — Five projects within the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) will be submitted to the state this month for consideration of funding.

During a public hearing June 22, the Greene County Board of Commissioners authorized the submission of these applications to Ohio Development Services Agency (ODSA).

Kristie Tidd, Community Development Coordinator at Greene County Department of Development, said the county anticipated receiving $280,000, but recently learned that the award was for $227,000.

The following projects and revised amounts to be submitted to the state are Jamestown Area Historical Society, $23,600; Family Violence Prevention Center, $34,000; Greene County Housing Program, $45,000; Fair Housing/Administrative, $45,400 and Interfaith Hospitality Network, $79,000.

According to Tidd, Greene County Housing Program plans to use the potential funds for a new pump lift station, Interfaith Hospitality Network needs foundation improvements and Family Violence Prevention Center would use the grant for operational needs.

Penny Madry-Johnson, executive director of Greene County Housing Program, thanked the commissioners for approving the grant request.

“Each time that we have to repair our pump lift station, it’s about $1000,” she said at the meeting. “So we are greatly appreciative of this. I know that it will maintain our program for a long time.”

Don Schneider, board vice president of Interfaith Hospitality Network, also expressed appreciation.

“It will improve our safety of that building considerably,” he said, explaining that the cinder block foundation of the emergency homeless shelter had deteriorated over time.

Tidd said the applications will be submitted by Friday, July 14.
