FAIRBORN — A workshop designed to help microbiologists identify and control agents of bioterrorism will be hosted by Wright State University.

“Agents of Bioterrorism: Sentinel Training for Clinical Laboratories” will take place Wednesday, April 5.

Designed for clinical microbiologists and those responsible for the oversight of bio-threat agent testing, the program includes a lecture and lab from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in 128 Biological Science I. Registration and pre-testing begins at 7:30 a.m.

The hands-on workshop is sponsored by the Ohio Department of Health Laboratory and hosted by Wright State’s Clinical Laboratory Science program.

The training will provide an overview of the sentinel clinical lab’s role in identifying the primary agents of bioterrorism, explain the safety implications of suspect samples and identify culture, staining and biochemical characteristics of primary agents in a bioterrorist event.

Attendees will learn to recognize and report a select agent of bioterrorism to prevent disease and potential deaths, said Tammy Bash, director of the Clinical Laboratory Sciences program.

The deadline to register is Friday, March 10. Registeration is online. The free event is limited to 24 individuals. Lunch is not included.
