Tandana Foundation heading to Ecuador

SPRING VALLEY — The Tandana Foundation is organizing a gardening volunteer vacation in the Andean highlands outside the city of Otavalo, Ecuador Oct. 16-23.

Gardening activities that the volunteers can enjoy include working at the tree nursery in the community of Achupallas, planting trees or plants in a local community, and working with school children in their school garden and classrooms. The volunteers can also tour horticultural sites and learn about native plants and gardening techniques in the region. Volunteers will also be able to relax and socialize together at a hotel in Otavalo.

When they are not having fun digging in the dirt, volunteers will have time to immerse themselves in the local culture and see the scenery. They may shop at the famous Otavalo market, take a cooking class at Cocina Kawsaymi Cooking School, visit natural wonders and meet local craftspeople.

The cost is $1,350 for double occupancy or $1,500 for single. The cost does not include airfare or personal expenses but does include food, lodging, transportation and activities while in Ecuador.
