Dance program presents choreographers’ concert

FAIRBORN — The junior and senior students of the Wright State University (WSU) Dance Program will once again present a concert of exciting world-premiere choreography. Entitled Emerging Choreographers Concert 2017, the program of new student choreographic work will appear in the brand new CAC 170 studio performance space at WSU 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, Saturday, Feb. 11 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15.

At WSU, dance majors are intensely trained in a wide variety of dance styles. Students begin to explore their choreographic styles in the classroom their sophomore year. In their junior and senior years, students are set free to create a piece on their peers to music of their choice, find costumes for their piece, and create their own lighting design. These pieces give dance majors the opportunity to find their own voice as a choreographer, and see their creation presented in a new state-of-the-art space.

Emerging Choreographers Concert includes choreography by WSU Dance Ensemble seniors: Halie Ayers, Kayla Storm Gusky, Briana Koon, Emily Monsour, Ashley Pavy, Kaitlynd Valentini, Carrie Vorbroker, Corinne Weber, and Hannah Williamson, and juniors: Halle Augenstein, Jaelyn Blake, Alex Flewellen, Kathleen Klensch, and Bailey Olean.

A suggested $5 donation is recommended at the performance to support the dance program and future student productions. A bake sale will also be held.
