FAIRBORN — If you aren’t quite into the “most wonderful time of the year” spirit, take a trip to downtown Fairborn Friday, Dec. 2, and you will be dreaming of a white Christmas.
Beginning at 4 p.m., Santa’s Candy Cane Lane will be open at the corner of Main Street and Grand Avenue at Fifth-Third Commons. This family fun area will have various free activities for children along with an opportunity to have your picture taken with Santa. Pony rides will be offered for $1 per ticket.
Between 4 – 5:30 p.m., free carriage rides along Main Street will be offered. Citizens and guests will be able to board from two different locations down Main Street and enjoy a fun experience for the entire family.
Then, at 6 p.m. and for the first time ever, the holiday parade will consist of horse-drawn carriages, hitches and riders, all outfitted with holiday lights. Only the fire and police departments will operate motorized vehicles, while all others will be a part of this equestrian affair. Santa will arrive and get in his chair and then the tree will be lit.
Pedestrians are asked to stay on the sidewalk during the parade in order to maintain enjoyment and safety for this event. Downtown shoppes will have their own specials and sales. At participating Downtown Fairborn Betterment Association businesses, the new 2016 Fairborn Heritage 9-11 Ornament will be available for sale along with special prices for the Christmas Bell, Veteran’s Memorial, and Old Fashioned hometown Christmas ornaments. Finally, children should remember to bring their letters to Santa as the Santa Mailbox is already set up outside the library. Letters that have a return address will receive a reply from Santa, so be sure to get your letter in as soon as possible so Santa has plenty of time to reply.
