XENIA — When Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over, shopping bags are full and carts are clear, the next day asks for something a little different.
Giving Tuesday, now marked as the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, asks the world to forget consumerism for a day and give back.
The global giving day has grown since its start five years ago.
It’s everywhere — and it’s right here in our community.
Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN)/Schneider House of Hope is one local charity that is reaching out to the community for help.
“On Giving Tuesday, we have the chance to join millions of others in the world and give back,” Sue Mortsolf, President of IHN/Schneider House, said. “In our case we are asking you to give to the work of Interfaith Hospitality Network to help us equip our clients to acquire sustainable independence.”
IHN/Schneider House provides shelter, meals and assistance to individuals experiencing homelessness in the area.
“We hope that the citizens of our communities in Greene County will give generously to help us provide shelter for our homeless children and their parents,” Mortsolf said.
Donors can give by going to PayPal.com and choosing “Interfaith Hospitality Network” or by visiting the Giving Tuesday website, www.givingtuesday.org, and choosing IHN.
The Giving Tuesday website allows visitors to look up local organizations by city or organization name. Listed for Xenia include Family Violence Prevention Center, The Jeremiah Tree, Greene Medical Foundation, Caesar’s Ford Theatre, Heart to Honduras and Starting Gaits Standardbred Transition Program.
