WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Getting diverse experiences by taking job assignments at different locations is an important part of professional growth and development for those in the service — but a challenge that civil service employees face when taking a job at a new location is finding employment for their spouses or domestic partners.
Sometimes the spouse/domestic partner has to take leave without pay until they find work. In other cases, the employee may decide not to move because of the stress of finding a job for their spouse/domestic partner.
Recognizing this challenge, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center implemented the Air Force Materiel Command Civilian Spouse/Domestic Partner Placement Program in 2014 to help spouses/domestic partners of civil service employees making a permanent change of station be considered for job placement.
Unlike the DoD Priority Placement Program, the Spouse/Domestic Partner Placement Program is for AFMC locations only.
“The Civilian Spouse/Domestic Partner Placement Program is beneficial because it allows us to retain and attract highly qualified candidates by providing an opportunity for their spouse to have continued employment,” Eric Dilworth, AFLCMC director of personnel said. “It removes barriers for people to be mobile and come to locations where we need them.”
So far the program has had success placing spouses and domestic partners into positions throughout the command.
To be considered for the program, the spouse/domestic partner must be a current DoD civil service employee and submit their resume, SF-50 and sponsor’s PCS orders to AFLCMC.email@example.com. For questions contact the program coordinator Maria Reith at 937-255-7907.
