FAIRBORN — A 15-year-old male was arrested for making terroristic threats last week at Fairborn High School after he created an anonymous “creepy clown” persona account on social media and made threats to kill students.

The Fairborn Police Department has seen a couple of isolated reports in recent times related to clown attacks. Fairborn Police Sergeant Mark Stannard said charges for crimes such as these depends on how, exactly, the events play out. The 15-year-old male was arrested Friday for making terroristic threats because he had threatened to kill a large amount of people. Making terroristic threats is a felony of the third degree.

Fairborn Police began investigating Thursday, Sept. 29 after the suspect made threats via Instagram that involved harming students at the end of the school day. The suspect became involved in a group chat, threatening to kill students as they left school.

Fairborn Investigators were able to determine the source of the post, which led them to the suspect. He was being held in The Greene County Juvenile Detention Center Friday awaiting formal charges.

“We don’t want anyone to get hurt from this,” Stannard said. “That’s the Fairborn Police Department’s concern.”

If an individual finds themselves becoming a victim of a creepy clown-type incident, safety officials advise getting themselves to safety and contacting the police. Stannard said the person dressed as a clown also faces danger because the victim doesn’t know their intent — their face is concealed — therefore they may react in an extreme manner as a means of protecting themselves.

“You don’t know how people will respond to this type of action,” Stannard said. “Playing practical jokes on friends and family is one thing — strangers are another.”
