CLARK COUNTY — The Clark County Parks District is offering opportunities for locals to enjoy the outdoors. To register for any of these programs, call the Clark County Park District office at 937-882-6000 or register at www.clarkcountyparks.org under the program registration tab.

Clark Park Hikers

Join park district volunteers 9 a.m. each Thursday morning to for a walk through the woods at George Rogers Clark Park. This group has been exploring the park weekly for more than 10 years. Meet at the parking lot below the dam and experience the beauty and camaraderie found in the outdoors.

Homeschool History Program, “Archaeology: Discovering our Buried Past”

Participate in an excavation, identify artifacts and find out how archaeologists learn about people from the past, according to Lance Greene, professor of anthropology at Wright State University. The program takes place 1:30-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Davidson Interpretive Center. The program is open to those ages 6-12. Pre-registration is required and registration is limited to 40 participants. This program is almost full, but another homeschool program will be offered next month by the park district.

Stargaze

Sit under the stars and explore the mysteries of the night sky. Enjoy spectacular views with a 14 inch telescope and even view the rings of Saturn. Bring something to sit on and a flashlight to lead your way. Feel free to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy during the program. Pre-registration is required and registration is limited to 40 participants. It takes place 9-11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 at the Davidson Interpretive Center.

BioBlitz

The Park District will be teaming up with Wittenberg’s Biology students to conduct a 24-hour count on as many species as possible throughout the parks. There will be activities for the kids and the public will be invited to participate in some of the counts. The schedule of the counts will be given out at the park that day. Keep posted on the park’s Facebook page for updates. Kids activities take place 3-6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Individuals should meet at the George Rogers Clark Park, behind the barn at front.
