Increased night-time air traffic operations

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE – Residents in the Miami Valley and surrounding communities may experience an increase in night-time aircraft operations from Aug. 12-26.

The 1st Special Operations Wing out of Hurlburt Field, Florida will be conducting exercise operations during this time.

Regular meeting set

XENIA — The Greene County Board of Elections will hold a regular business meeting 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16. Valid local options and local questions and issues will be certified to the Nov. 8 General Election ballot at this time. All meetings are held at the Greene County Social Service Center, which is located at 551 Ledbetter Road.

Career center seeking school supplies

XENIA — Greene County Career Center’s Parent Volunteer Organization is accepting donations of school supplies to help students in need. Supplies being requested include safety glasses, notebooks, three-hole punched paper, colored pencils, pocket folders, Velcro, rubber cement and other common school items. Drop boxes are located at the school’s main campus at 2960 W. Enon Road and at the Fairborn YMCA. PERI meeting

XENIA — The Greene County Chapter of the Public Employee Incorporated (PERI) will meat at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 24 in the Multipurpose Room at the Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center (XARSC), 130 E. Church St.

Fairborn Against Heroin 2nd Annual Recovery Picnic

FAIRBORN — Fairborn Against Heroin, an organization that advocates for recovery in Greene County from all drugs of abuse, will host its second annual Recovery Picnic 12-5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 5 at Central Park, 222 S. Central Ave. It will offer free hotdogs and water, splashpark entertainment, information about resources, a memorial balloon launch and speakers. Fairborn Mayor Dan Kirkpatrick will take the microphone to share some words at 1 p.m. during the picnic.

American Legion Auxiliary invites community participation

FAIRBORN — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 526 General membership meetings are held 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month at Legion Post 526, 526 Legion Lane. All members are encouraged to attend. The executive committee meets the first Monday of the month at the same location.

The Unit also holds a Roast Beef Hot Shot Dinner 5-7:30 p.m. the fourth Friday of each month at the Post. The funds raised are used to support Auxiliary programs, such as Children & Youth Adopt a Military Family for Christmas, donations to Fairborn Easter Egg Hunt, Post Children’s Christmas Party, Education & Scholarship donations, Community Service programs such as Monthly Bingo games at two Nursing Homes, Wii Bowling tournaments, and Others.

Senior center homemakers

FAIRBORN – The Fairborn Senior Center is accepting applications for part-time homemakers. Hours will vary. Applicants must pass a background check and drug screen, and they must also have a valid driver’s license and car insurance. Apply at 325 N. Third St.

Minimalists meet

YELLOW SPRINGS — Dayton Minimalists meet 7 p.m. every third Thursday of the month at the John Bryan Center, Yellow Springs.

Road Closures

GREENE COUNTY — The Greene County Engineer’s Office has announced the following road closures for road work:

The Davis Road culvert in Jefferson Township will be closed for approximately two days beginning Monday, Aug. 15. The closure will be between State Route 72 and Carpenter Road.

All projects are contingent on weather. For more information about these projects contact the engineer’s office at 937-562-7500.
