Bad inning ends Fairborn’s tournament FAIRBORN — One bad inning brought Fairborn’s season to a shocking end.
The Skyhawks’ softball team committed three errors in the final inning, and Little Miami came back from a 3-0 deficit to upend Fairborn 4-3 in the first round of the Division I sectional softball tournament on Monday night at Community Park East.
The No. 5-seeded Skyhawks (18-10) out-hit Little Miami — the No. 18 seed — 12-2 for the game, but errors once again caught up with them.
“We had a good season, but we were hoping for a great season so this is very disappointing,” said Fairborn head coach Bob Shively. “We expected to advance so this was a tough one and everybody took it hard. We weren’t ready to finish the season.”
Brittany Duncan went 3-for-3 with two singles and an RBI, Sarah Lilley went 1-for-4 with an RBI, Courtnie Spain went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Sophie Bolser went 1-for-4 with a double, Chelsea Reed went 3-for-4 with three singles, Ambrosha Reeves went 1-for-4 and Kylie Wallace went 1-for-3.
Fairborn finished with four errors for the game.
Spain (11-7) got the loss on the mound despite giving up just two hits while striking out 11 and walking just two. Little Miami had one earned run.
On Friday the Skyhawks split a doubleheader with Mother of Mercy. Fairborn won the first game 5-2 behind three doubles from Duncan. In the second game Fairborn committed eight errors defensively in an 11-2 loss.
