Errors, walks catch up with Hawks in loss FAIRBORN — The Skyhawks’ softball team had too many errors in the field, and they couldn’t bring out the bats quickly enough in a 5-1 loss to GWOC South foe Lebanon on Friday.
Fairborn (15-7, 6-4 South) combined for five hits — three in the final inning — and committed three errors defensively in the loss to league-leading Lebanon.
“We couldn’t get the bats together. We tried to mount a little bit of a rally in the seventh, but prior to that we really didn’t do much on offense,” said Fairborn head coach Bob Shively.
Bethany Campbell struck out nine to get the victory pitching for the Warriors (20-1, 11-0). Fairborn’s Courtnie Spain took the loss. She struck out seven and walked four.
Lebanon had just one earned run.
“Lebanon didn’t really hit the ball either, but when you have three errors and four walks, you put that together and that’s how you come out with five runs,” Shively said. “We played close, but we weren’t there. We shot ourselves in the foot with the errors, and Lebanon took advantage of that.”
Kylie Wallace hit a double to knock in Fairborn’s only run, which came in the seventh. Sarah Lilley had two singles, and Jessie Little and Ambrosha Reeves each had singles.
Fairborn travels to Fairfield today to take on Fairfield and Tecumseh.
