Fairborn falls in tough five games twice FAIRBORN — The Skyhawks volleyball team last its second five-game match in as many nights, falling to Edgewood 25-18, 25-16, 18-25, 21-25, 15-8.
“The guys started off well in the first game and we had a lead, but we let it go,” said Fairborn head coach Eric Marthaler. “I changed the lineup in Game 3 and we came back over the next two games. We’ve got to figure out how to close out teams though.”
Dylan Romans had 16 kills, eight blocks and one ace, Nick Umbdenstock had four kills and four aces, David Choi had four blocks, Ryan LeMay had seven kills, one block and one ace, Tyler Souders had two blocks and Jared Niles had 24 assists.
On Monday night Fairborn fell to Middletown Fenwick, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19, 24-26, 15-3. Romans had nine kills, seven blocks and three aces, Umbdenstock had nine kills, two assists and two blocks, Choi had three kills and eight blocks, Eric Wilcox had two kills, five blocks and one ace, LeMay had nine kills, one assist, two blocks and one ace and Niles had three kills, a season-high 26 assists and five blocks.
“We played really well at times, but we kind of shut down in the fifth game and we couldn’t get any offense going at all,” Marthaler said.
The Hawks celebrate senior tonight with a 6:30 p.m. contest against Carroll.
