Fairborn baseball beats Sidney on the road in 9 innings SIDNEY — The Fairborn baseball team got it done in extra innings, beating Sidney 8-6 on the road on Friday night.
With the game tied at 5 in the ninth inning, Fairborn’s Ben Woolfe hit a single, Bronson Marlett hit a double and A.J. Johnson was walked to load the bases. James Jessee then hit a three-RBI triple, scoring all three baserunners to make it 8-5.
Sidney scored once in the ninth, but a double play and a strikeout from Jessee ended the game.
The Yellow Jackets previously scored on a triple in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game up and send it in into extra innings.
“Our kids showed a lot of heart,” said Fairborn head coach Rob Smith. “We could’ve folded in the bottom of the seventh inning when Sidney hit that triple and tied the game. It was just a big win for us. We’re improving each day.”
Weather permitting, the Hawks face a brutal week ahead with games against Lebanon, Springboro, Lakewood St. Edwards and West Carrollton.
“We’ve got our work cut out for us,” Smith said.
Fairborn is 9-8 overall and 3-4 in league play.
