Fairborn suffers first loss to Northmont CLAYTON — In a game that lasted less than an hour, Fairborn’s softball team suffered its first loss of the season, 1-0, to Northmont.
The Bolts (9-2) were the beneficiary of a controversial call that helped score the only run of the game. Fairborn head coach Bob Shively said a Northmont batter appeared to be squaring to bunt when she was hit by a pitch. Instead of being called for a strike because she was trying to bunt, she was awarded a free base. She eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.
Fairborn pitcher Courtnie Spain got the loss despite giving up just one hit. She struck out 10 Bolts, walked one and hit one. The Skyhawks committed just one error.
The Skyhawks finished with two hits, which came from Kylie Wallace and Spain.
“It was a pitchers’ battle, and both of them pitched very well,” said Shively. “It was a good, quick game.”
Jessie Clutter got the win for Northmont, throwing 10 strikeouts and no walks. The Bolts didn’t commit an error.
Fairborn is back in action today in a doubleheader on the road against Pickerington North and Heath. The two games will be played at Pickerington North.
