FAIRBORN — Sophie Bolser ran into some trouble in the top of the fourth inning when a pair of Trotwood batters got on base.

She never faltered though, recording three-straight strikeouts to end the inning. She finished with 14 strikeouts and gave up one hit, and the Fairborn softball team beat the Rams 10-0 in five innings Tuesday night in Fairborn.

Bolser (2-0) struck out the first nine Trotwood batters she faced in the victory for Fairborn (5-0), which hosts West Carrollton tonight in a make up game. The Rams’ Darnasha McGraw had the only hit, and Maggie Pitts reached base on the next at bat after she was hit with a pitch.

Bolser struck out four of the next five batters she faced. The other was a harmless groundball fielded for an out.

“Sophie pitched well,” said Fairborn head coach Bob Shively. “The only hit they got, the girl swung at a pitch that was high and outside, and she still got a bat on it. They made contact a few other times, but the defense didn’t have to do much.”

The Hawks finished with 10 hits, led by Jessie Little with an RBI triple and another RBI basehit that scored the run to secure the run-rule. Kaila Mohr had two RBI singles, Hannah Gillespie had an RBI double and another bunt single and Brittany Duncan hit a solo home run (2). Jenifer Neel had a pair of singles, and Kylie Wallace had an RBI single.

Fairborn blew up for six runs in the first inning after Trotwood pitcher Kayla Vinegar walked the first three Fairborn batters. The game was never in doubt from that point on despite the Skyhawks’ bats cooling somewhat. After the first inning, the Hawks scored once in the second, once in the third and twice in the fifth.

“It seemed like we couldn’t get comfortable,” Shively said. “We scored 10 runs and we had quite a few hits, but we didn’t do as much after that six-run first inning.”
