Duncan drills home run in Fairborn win FAIRBORN — Brittany Duncan had one at bat in Fairborn’s season opener against Springfield before she was pulled with an injury.
One swing was all it took.
Duncan hit a solo home run, and the Lady Skyhawks made it stand up in a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats.
“Brittany’s been recovering from surgery, and she looked to be in pain on her home run swing, so she was taken out of the game at that point,” said Fairborn head coach Bob Shively.
Courtnie Spain got the win on the mound in seven innings of work for the Hawks. She gave up two hits, striking out seven and walking three. She struck out the side in the seventh to finish the game.
“Spain kept us in it and she pitched us out of trouble a few times,” Shively said. “We had some errors, but we made some good plays behind her when we needed to.”
Jessie Little, Chelsea Reed and Hanna Gillespie all had base hits for the Skyhawks (1-0).
