FAIRBORN — Freshman hurler Jason Newsome went four innings of no-hit ball and James Jessee capped it with an inning of no-hit relief as Fairborn blitzed Trotwood, 16-1, in the season-opener for both teams at Fairborn High School.
Newsome struck out 11 and Jessee sat down two as the duo combined for the no-hitter. Fairborn committed two errors on defense which led to the lone Trotwood run.
At the dish for the Skyhawks, Bronson Marlett had an RBI single in the first inning as the home team pushed across five runs in the opening frame.
Fairborn added three more runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Newsome and an RBI single by Austin Harrison.
The Skyhawks completed the run-rule with eight runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by a bases-loaded clearing triple by Jason Moorman.
Andrew Johnson, Alex Johnson, Moorman, Jessee and Harrison all went 2-for-3 at the plate for Fairborn. Johnson and Jessee had one run batted in apiece, while Moorman had three RBI.
“It was a nice way to start the season. We came out and did what we were supposed to do,” Fairborn manager Rob Smith said. “Trotwood is improved, and it was good to start on a good note.”
Fairborn returns to the field today with a game scheduled against Springfield at the Athletes in Action complex in Xenia.
