Resilient Fairborn tennis drops to 0-2 FAIRBORN — The Xenia Christian tennis team picked up its first victory of the season Tuesday night, beating Fairborn 4-1.
At first singles, XC’s Jason Holloway defeated Fairborn’s Chris McAuley, 6-2, 6-1. At second singles Jared Holloway defeated Joe Lorenzetti 7-6 (6), 7-6 (3) and at third singles David McNeely defeated Fairborn’s Alberto Cervantes 6-0, 6-0.
Fairborn’s lone victory came at first doubles, where Amanda Sillamann and Kyle Knepp defeated Xenia Christian’s Carson Penick and Sam Patterson, 6-4, 7-5.
At second doubles XC’s Jamie Thomas and Steve Panosian beat Fairborn’s Nick Root and Ben Browder 7-6 (5), 6-0.
“We’ve improved a lot as far as being competitive,” said Fairborn head coach Terry Miller. “We’re a lot more experienced, and it was a good match.”
On Monday, Fairborn took a tough 3-2 loss to Dayton Christian. The Skyhawks’ two victories came at second singles, where Lorenzetti won a three-setter, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (4), and second doubles, where Browder and Cervantes won 6-3, 6-0.
McAuley lost his first singles match 6-4, 6-0, and Sillamann and Knepp fell at first doubles, 6-1, 6-1. Root fell in the deciding match in three tight sets, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
Fairborn is 0-2 and goes on the road to face Stebbins tonight.
