HUBER HEIGHTS - An old saying around the sporting world says that one of the hardest things to do in any sport is beat a certain team three times in one season.
Miamisburg made sure Fairborn learned this lesson in a painful way.
Chelsea LaPorte scored 19 points and Ashlee Furnier had 15 as Miamisburg defeated Fairborn, 54-51, Saturday evening in a D-I sectional final at Wayne High School.
No. 2 seed Fairborn had defeated its GWOC South division foe twice in the regular season by 11 and 5 points, but the No. 7 seed Vikings were able to regain some big time revenge in the most important of the three matchups.
From the onset, Miamisburg (15-8) played a physical game and let Fairborn know this game was going to be different. The Vikings held a four-point lead after one quarter, then bumped its advantage to 27-21 at halftime.
LaPorte was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line, a handful of them down the stretch to ice the game, as part of her 19-point night. Furnier hit four 3-pointers on her way to 15 points, while Macey Riese chipped in with 10 points and Brooke Sears had six.
The loss brings an end to what had been an extremely successful season for Fairborn. The Skyhawks won the GWOC South crown, sweeping county rival Xenia on the way, and finished with an overall record of 18-4.
Four different Fairborn players scored 11 points in the contest: Brianna Breeding, Alexis Gassion, Brooklyn Pumroy and Jaymee Veney. Chelsea Reed chipped in with five points.

The game was played at Trotwood-Madison HS, not Wayne HS. Was the reporter actually there?
