Girls basketball roundup: Hawks get hot in third quarter to beat ‘Burg MIAMISBURG — A hot third quarter broke open a close game and Fairborn held on at the end to pick up a hard-earned road victory at Miamisburg, 63-58, in girls GWOC South action.
Fairborn held a three-point lead at halftime, then outscored the home team 21-12 in the third quarter to take a commanding advantage into the final frame. Miamisburg made a run, but the Lady Skyhawks were able to hold on.
Fairborn improved its GWOC South division record to 6-1 and the Hawks remained in first place, one game ahead of Xenia. Fairborn's overall mark is 14-3. Miamisburg slipped to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in division play.
Jaymee Veney led Fairborn with 18 points, while Brooklyn Pumroy tallied 16 and Alexis Gassion had 12 as the Hawks continued to have a spread-out scoring attack. Brianna Breeding chipped in with eight points and Madison Musick had five.
For Miamisburg, Chelsea LaPorte led all scorers with 21 points.

Fairmont 35, Beavercreek 32
KETTERING — In a defensive struggle, it was Fairmont that got just enough offense in a 35-32 victory over Beavercreek in a critical girls GWOC Central matchup.
After falling behind by three points after the first quarter, Beavercreek dominated the second frame, outscoring Fairmont, 16-4, to take a 21-12 lead into halftime.
However, the Firebirds put the clamps down on the Beavers in the second half, allowing 'Creek only five points in the third quarter and six points in the fourth.
With the win Fairmont stays atop the GWOC Central standings with a perfect 8-0 record (15-2 overall). Beavercreek falls to 6-2 in the division, with both losses coming to Fairmont, and the Beavers are 12-5 overall.
Fairmont's Chelsea Welch was the only player in the contest to reach double figures as she netted 11 points.
For Beavercreek, Shelby Maloney led the way with eight points, while Sara Kocian and Erin Walsh tallied six points apiece. Sammy Haddix chipped in with five points for the Beavers.
