Night rides set

Enjoy a free evening bicycle ride escorted by GCP&T Trail Sentinels beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 Xenia Station to Fifth-Third Gateway Park in Beavercreek. Another ride is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 from Xenia Station to McDonald’s in Jamestown. Participants must be over the age of 18, wear a helmet and have lights. Rides will be cancelled in case of a thunderstorm. The monthly night rides feature different sections of the 62 miles of paved multi-use trails managed by the park agency.

Meteor shower viewing

Join parks staff to view the Perseid Meteor Shower 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12 at Twin Towers Park, 501 Yellow Springs-Fairfield Road in Bath Township. Hundreds of meteors can be viewed while they streak across the night sky. Bring a blanket or lawn chair for viewing. The program is free but donations are accepted.

Naturalist volunteer training

Anyone interested in volunteering with Greene County Parks & Trails is invited to attend as a guest at one of the volunteer training sessions sponsored by the park agency. The sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Narrows Reserve Nature Center, 2595 Indian Ripple Road.

Topics include: Monday, July 25: Canine – Coyote, Fox and Wolves; Monday, Aug. 29: Field Trip to Gallagher Fen.

Paddle board yoga

The parks will host a paddle board yoga class series from 5:30-7 p.m. Mondays, beginning Aug. 8 through Sept. 19 at Spring Lakes Park in Bellbrook. Participants will need to be prepared to get wet and dress accordingly, all equipment will be provided.

The instructor is Jen Ater, MA, E-RYT, Innerlight Yoga and Wellness, Beavercreek. Cost is $210 with pre-registration required by Aug. 1 – class size is limited to five participants.

Ohio bats

Join the parks for a program celebrating Ohio bats beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the Narrows Reserve Nature Center, 2575 Indian Ripple Road in Beavercreek. Learn why bats are on the decline in Ohio, about types of bats found in Ohio, why they are important and how the White-nose Syndrome is affecting our bat populations. The program is free; donations accepted.

Animal encounters series

This monthly series celebrates animal encounters at the Narrows Reserve Nature Center, 2575 Indian Ripple Road in Beavercreek. Programs will be held between 1-3 p.m.; participants may arrive at any time. Information will be shared about the natural history of the animals and other fascinating facts. The series will include Insects with Wings, Sunday, July 24 and Hawks and Owls, Sunday, Aug. 28.

Parks meetings

The Greene County Park District will hold its monthly meetings the second Thursday of each month at 3:30 p.m. at Greene County Parks & Trails agency headquarters, 575 Ledbetter Road.
