XENIA — OSU Extension Master Gardener’s across Ohio are participating in the 2016 Master Gardener Food Challenge.
The mission of the challenge is for volunteer member to donate fresh produce to local food banks, pantry or other collection sites that distribute food from their projects or home gardens. The OSU Extension Greene County Master Gardeners have accepted the challenge and included contributing fresh produce in support of the SNAP-ED Cooking Matters series.
Cooking Matters teaches low-income audiences receiving food assistant how to cook and shop for fresh produce in Greene County.
To date, the Greene County Master Gardeners have donated 13 pounds of fresh produce. The produce was harvested from home garden’s, and from James Ranch where a group of Greene County Master Gardeners volunteer help Greene County Parks and Trails maintain the gardens at that location. As more produce become ready we will be contributing not only to the food banks and pantries but also it Cooking Matters.
By contributing fresh produce to the Cooking Matters program, we are giving participates an opportunity to taste fresh home-grown and opening the door to inspire them to learn to grow their own.
