XENIA — Greene County Parks & Trails (GCP&T) will host a variety of upcoming events. Wreath and garland workshop

Join GCP&T’s Girls Night Out for a wreath and garland workshop from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Narrows. Participants will use fresh evergreens and natural materials to create a handcrafted wreath or garland. Materials and supplies are provided but participants are welcomed to bring their own special touches. Space is limited and registration must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday. Cost for the series is $25 (Greene County resident); and $30 (non-resident).

Project Feeder Watch

All are invited to help with this nationwide research project from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at Narrows. Learn how to attract birds to feeders and what kinds of birds are in the area during the winter. This data helps scientists track winter bird populations and long-term trends. Another session will be held 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17.

Santa’s Holiday in the Park

Bring the whole family to this festive annual event that captures and celebrates the magic of the season. This event features a self-guided walking tour, hands-on children’s activities, holiday temporary tattoos and more. Donations accepted. Photographs may be purchased from betterImages. The event will take place at James Ranch Park 6-9 p.m. Dec. 7-10.

Big Backyard

Explore nature at Narrows Wednesday, Dec. 21, 9:30-10:30 a.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Each month will highlight a different activity, such as creating a craft or going for a hike. In December, participants will create treats for wildlife and share these as decorations along the trail. Preregistration is required before Friday, Dec. 16.

Winter Solstice hike

Enjoy the silence of the winter woods on this quiet hike in the park. De-stress from the holiday madness while relaxing on this winter stroll on Wednesday, Dec. 21 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Narrows. This luminary light hike is self-guided.

Canine Christmas

All are invited to bring their favoirte four-footed friend for a photo with Santa within the 1800’s brick home at James Ranch Park 2-4 p.m. Dec. 11. Donations appreciated.

Parks meetings

The Greene County Park District holds its monthly meetings 3:20 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at GCP&T agency headquarters.
