Unitarian Universalist Fellowship program
YELLOW SPRINGS —The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Yellow Springs will present “The Hundred Year Plan” beginning 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. Jim Merkel, who once designed and marketed top-secret military electronics, experienced an “ethical hemorrhage” after the 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster. As a result, he quit his job and began creating a life of “radical simplicity” in an effort to “reduce his eco-footprint” and pass a live-able planet to future generations. Our of his experience, he wrote “Radical Simplicity – Small Footprints on a Finite Earth” and is now directing “The Hundred Year Plan”, which is described as a film that to seeks to discover if sustainability is possible and how to go about doing so. A potluck lunch will follow the program beginning 11:45 a.m., before the executive board meeting begins at noon.
First United celebrating 169th
XENIA — The First United Christian Church is celebrating its 169th anniversary 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. The church was founded by emancipated people from Kentucky. The first minister was Kincheon Sledge, who lived in Gladstone, a Greene County village no longer in existence. The Rev. William Garr and congregation from the Seventh Street Christian Church in Paris, Ky., are in charge of Sunday’s service. The church, with Dr. Edgar A. Wallace senior pastor, is at 626 N. Columbus Avenue. The celebration theme is “Steadfast in the Apostles Doctrine.”
Local church hosting craft bazaar
FAIRBORN — Maple Heights Baptist Church, 144 Funderburg Road, is hosting a craft bazaar 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. It will include a variety of unique crafts, handmade gifts and baked goodies. To reach Maple Heights Baptist Church, call 937-878-3333.
Holiday bazaar set
BEAVERCREEK — St. Andrew United Methodist Church will host a holiday bazaar 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the church, 350 North Fairfield Road. The ladies of the church have been busy making crafts during the year to benefit the mission work of St. Andrew through the upcoming bazaar.
In addition to holiday crafts, there will be the popular attic treasures, used toys, sweet shoppe, used book, tapes and CDs, cookie walk, theme baskets, artisan’s gallery, bake shoppe, silent auction and pre-owned children’s clothing. Lunch with homemade pies will be served 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Santa will visit from 11-1 p.m. with pictures available.
Free clothing
FAIRBORN — The Fairborn United Methodist Church is starting its fifth year at the free clothing store, The Family Closet, located at Fairborn United Methodist Church, at 100 N. Broad St. During 2014, the church offered free clothing, coats and shoes to 298 families including 461 adults, 103 teens and 343 children.
The hours of operation for The Family Closet are 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and the first and third Saturdays of each month from 9-11 a.m. Check with the church 937-878-5042 before holidays to make sure it is open. All clothing is donated whether it is used or new. Anyone needing clothing is welcome to come.
