RHINELAND-PALATINATE, GERMANY — Alan Burke has been awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service as the joint test director with the Office of Secretary of Defense Joint Test and Evaluation Four Pillars Integrated Air and Missile Defense project from August 2014 to August 2016.

Burke’s joint and interagency team completed several initiatives that enabled the joint warfighter to execute attack operations, active defense, passive defense and battle management in response to ballistic missile attacks in a cross-combatant command area of operations with our allies. This program included execution of two major operational test events involving more than 1,900 participants executing in 12 separate countries in three combatant commands. The result of these tests were tactics, techniques and procedures to command and control offensive and defensive resources and improve effectiveness of warfighter capability across Europe.

Burke is currently serving as the chief of the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Division at Ramstein Air Base, German. He has been a civil servant for 32 years, with 27 of those years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.

Burke is the son of Sonya C. Burke of Dayton, and son-in-law of Robert L. Browne of Colorado Springs, Colo.

He is a 1980 graduate of Fairborn Baker High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1984 from U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
