As part of the 50th anniversary commemoration of the F5 tornado which hit Xenia on April 3, 1974, the staff for Greene County Dailies provides a look back at the coverage provided by the staff members of the Xenia Daily Gazette in the aftermath of the destruction the tornado caused.

FAIRBORN — Fairborn City Schools is holding a special event for Earth Day in partnership with B-W Greenway Community Land Trust.

April 3, 1974 was an ordinary day, like most others in the City of Xenia. Students had spent the day at school, shoppers went about their activities and business was pretty much as usual until late afternoon.

WILBERFORCE — Mark Mitchell, the men’s basketball head coach at Wilberforce University, has died. The university made the announcement on Tuesday.

XENIA — Sarah Mays has won the narrow race for Greene County Commissioner against former Beavercreek Mayor Bob Stone.

COLUMBUS — Dillon Campbell left the arena floor walking happily toward the tunnel entrance leading into the area underneath the stands. He calmly put on a collared shirt over his singlet and stopped to pose for a quick picture for someone while having no struggles to hold a smile.
