Quarter raffle to benefit senior activities

FAIRBORN — Two tickets to country singing star Luke Bryan’s Aug. 23 concert at Riverbend and four tickets to Disney On Ice at Wright State’s Nutter Center in October are the top prizes up for bid at the Fairborn Senior Center on Friday, Aug. 8.


The quarterly fund-raising event, sponsored by the Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce, benefits programs and activities for local seniors.


“The quarter raffles help sponsor our activities and promote new ones,” said Senior Center Executive Director Ellen Slone-Farthing. “We do pretty well and it’s a really fun evening. It’s inexpensive and there are some great opportunities. Once they come, people are excited to come back.”


Cost is $2 which includes one bidding paddle. Additional paddles are $1 each. Participants bid with quarters on items of interest with nearly 100 items to bid on. When their number is called, they win. Items with a retail value of $12 to $25 can be bid on with one quarter, items $26 to $50 with two quarters, $51 to $75 with three and $76 to $100 or more with four.


Other items up for grabs are a 32-inch LED television, a three-piece Farberware skillet pack, a 40-piece Rubbermaid set, a Black and Decker 12-cup programmable coffee maker, an Anchor Hocking bake set with an insulated tote bag, an Essential Home 4-piece stainless steel canister set and more.


More than 15 different consultants will be on hand to provide their specialty items up for bid including Origami Owl, PartyLite, Scentsy, Damsel In Defense, Tupperware, Thirty One Gifts, Younique, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Uppercase Living, Pure Romance, Miche, Mr. B’s Cheeseball, Steeped Tea, Patty’s Scarves, Beauti-Control and Avon.


Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the raffle begins at 6:30 p.m. The Senior Center is located at 325 N. Third St.
